Number of measurements in India increased rapidly since the beginning of 2015.
Users of RFBenchmark application conducted more than 7 000 Internet Speed Tests and collected about 40 Millions of Signal Quality Results.
We would like to present a short summary for first 5 months of measurements in 2015 related to Mobile Networks Quality. We would like also drive some conclusions and predict Mobile Networks Quality Trend in India for rest of 2015 and beyond.
Graph below presents 2G and 3G technology utilization for all tests conducted in first 5 months of 2015 in India.
|79 %||21 %|
Most of measurements were conducted in 2G technology. Only 21% were done in 3G. This do not mean that majority of people in India have access only to GSM. With increasing number of the RFBenchmark application users the technology usage will be more balanced by growing number of measurements in cities.
Next graphs presents Internet Speed Tests results using Mobile Internet Access (average & maximum). More precise information regarding each parameter and how to interpret Speed Test Results you can find at: Methodology & Internet Speed Test Articles.
|91 Kbps||38 Kbps||1.39 Mbps||0.59 Mbps|
|306 ms||386 ms|
|234 Kbps||239 Kbps||12.98 Mbps||5.35 Mbps|
|30.35 ms||30.40 ms|
Average Download and Upload Speed Tests results were better in 3G technology than 2G, nevertheless average Round Trip Time (RTT) was shorter in GSM (2G).
The best measurements in India show that in 3G users could reach almost 13 Mbps download and over 5 Mbps upload. The lowest ping achieved in both technologies was about 30 ms, which is more than 10 times lower than average ping value.
In comparison to the newest LTE technology maximum download speed ~150 Mbps (example: movie 600 MB downloads in 30 seconds) achieved test results look rather slow. Average Internet Speed Test in 3G is weak as well comparing to Industry Standard. In HSPA+ maximum download speed is ~42 Mbps (example: movie 600 MB downloads in 2 minutes) but average download speed in India is about 1.39 Mbps (example: movie 600 MB download in 1 hour!).
We expect further increase in number of users of RFBenchmark application in India. Such trend will allow us for more precise analysis of offered Mobile Quality of Service.
