Quality Benchmark Q1-Q4, 2016
Next report ahead. We prepared Mobile Application – RFBENCHMARK in European capitals during first three quarters of 2016. Why capitals? Answer is quite simple – dense population and in theory best focus of mobile opertors due to high ARPU (Average Revenue per User). Using this rule of thumb we can assume that obtained results should present best service in cities? Is it so? It is easy to compare with average results per country available at: Mobile Internet Quality in Europe? How Mobile Operators perform in your country? Quality Benchmark Q1 – Q3, 2016.
Below map presents results of Mobile Internet Quality in European Capitals, including three most important mobile link parameters: Downlink Throughput, Uplink Throughput and Ping (Detailed Methodology Description can be found here!).
Displayed results presents averaged Key Performance Indicators for all mobile technologies 2G – GSM, 3G – WCDMA and LTE (4G). Such approach allows us to observe real quality of Mobile Internet Access per capital city.
Results of Internet mobile measurements, performed in European capital cities:
Budapest, Prague, Madrid and Sofia are taking strong lead in terms of mobile Internet download speed. Budapest and Prague are the best taking into account upload throughput. We can observe domination LTE technology in those measurements, because in 3G upload throughput is lower than download. LTE dominance is typical in our measurements due to the fact that LTE deployments were started to cover dense populated areas first.
Weakest link is Kyiv. It is caused by lack of LTE (4G) technology in Ukraine. Up to recently 2G (GSM) technology dominated on the telecom market. Now situation is becoming a little bit better due to intensive 3G rollout, however Ukraine has long way ahead for quality improvement.
We expect further improvements of mobile Internet speed and quality in 4th Quarter of 2016 mostly due to continued rollouts of LTE Advanced and increased penetration of latest mobile terminals supporting this technology.
In next articles we will try to predict next milestones of Mobile Services. Future is behind corner – Internet of Things, first deployments of Cloud RAN, 8×8 MIMO, Radio Throughputs above > 1 Gbps and 5G Networks.
