We completed the analysis of the data collected during the measurements in Tricity, which took place on 3-6.06.2014. It’s time for a summary, which of the leading operators in Poland offers the best quality of voice call services and the fastest Internet in Tricity.
A measuring car rode through the streets of Gdańsk (Danzig), Sopot and Gdynia. The table below presents basic assumptions, that were achieved during measurements.
|Type of measurement||Measured parameter||Access technology|
|Voice call quality||MOS POLQA
(marking from 1 to 5)
|Internet speed||Throughput [Mbps]||2G/3G/LTE||2G/3G||2G/3G/LTE||2G/3G/LTE|
During measurements LTE technology in T-Mobile wasn’t commercially available, that’s why bandwidth measurements took place in 2G/3G technology. The other operators supported LTE technology. The voice quality was assessed on the five-point MOS POLQA scale, and the Internet speed was evaluated by Throughput and RTT.
The measurement results of voice quality in Tricity with MOS assessment use are presented in the bar chart. Taking into account the four leading operators in Gdańsk (Danzig), Sopot and Gdynia the best call quality is offered by Orange, and the worst – by Plus.However, the differences between the best result and the worst one are small. According to the guidelines set in the Memorandum of UKE (The Office of Electronic Communications) about the quality of voice services, 99% of all the operators’ samples achieved the result higher than 3 on the MOS scale. It means that voice services are of good quality.
The average voice call setup times are presented in the chart below. In Tricity the longest call setup time is in Orange, approximately 4,5s. The fastest one is offered by Plus, approximately 3s.
|4.54 s||3.90 s||3.01 s||3.67 s|
The average Internet speed which is offered by the listed above operators in Tricity is presented on the chart below. The colour which is used corresponds to a given range on the bandwidth scale placed on the RFBenchmark measurement map. Plus and Orange, approximately 24Mbps.
|24.1 Mbps||15.1 Mbps||24.5 Mbps||16.2 Mbps|
The table below shows how all the operators satisfy the requirements set on the Memorandum of UKE work about maintaining proper quality of packet (Internet) services, which guarantee the trouble-free Internet use.
Description of the colours, adopted in the final report on the Memorandum of UKE work:
Green colour – good quality of services,
Yellow colour – satisfactory quality of services,
Red colour – low quality of services.
|Type of service||Minimum requirements of service quality||Orange||T-Mobile||Plus||Play|
|Web browsing||Throughput > 1 Mb/s DL RTT < 200ms||100,00%||96,96%||100,00%||99,75%|
|Watching video <720p||Throughput > 2 Mb/s DL RTT < 200ms||100,00%||96,67%||100,00%||99,63%|
|Watching video >=720p||Throughput > 6 Mb/s DL RTT < 200ms||99,66%||88,74%||98,64%||95,83%|
|Calls in HD||Throughput > 1,5 Mb/s DL/UL RTT < 150ms||99,24%||70,96%||91,49%||98,22%|
|VoIP telephony||Throughput > 0,64 Mb/s DL/UL RTT < 150ms||99,79%||89,48%||98,21%||98,90%|
|Multiroom (3x HD video)||Throughput > 18 Mb/s DL RTT < 200ms||58,28%||0,07%||55,65%||0,31%|
|Real time online games||Throughput > 2 Mb/s DL & 1,5 Mb/s UL RTT < 30ms||24,95%||0,67%||0,86%||0,00%|
|Flash games||Throughput > 1 Mb/s DL/DL RTT < 200ms||99,52%||84,59%||93,85%||98,77%|
To sum up, taking into account the four leading operators in Tricity the best voice call and Internet service quality is offered by Orange. Unfortunately, none of the mobile operators do not enable us to use Multiroom service 3x HD or play real time online games at a good level. According to the methodology set in the Memorandum of UKE voice call quality is at a good level.
